Vermiculite has many applications in the horticulural world. Whereas our main use for it is as a hydroponic medium, it can also be used as a soil conditioner to help create air channels for better root development, helps prevent mildews and to store bulbs and root crops as its absorbant nature regulates the moisture on the outside of the bulb/root crop.
Vermicultie can also be used when propagating fine seeds as a light cover and to aid moisture content. Simply sprinkle a layer of vermiculite over the seed once planted.
